Shree Thandayuthapani Swamy Temple is popularly known as Devakottai MalaiKovil.

The temple is located at Karuthaoorani North, Devakottai. Originally a Ganapathy Temple was planned, which due to sage advice & popular demand was changed to Tamil God Murugan Temple. Subsequently, it was again changed to a Malai Kovil Temple, at a considerable height.

With the divine blessings of brothers - Pillayar and Murugan, Malaikovil was conceived and completed by Devakottai Shri Sivalingam Chettiar & Anandavalli Achi family. The temple kumbabishegam was performed by Sivasri Pitchai Gurukkal of Pillayarpartti fame on 4th December 2011, in the august presence of Nagarathar Palani Aruladiyar Sri. Palaniappar (Samiaadi Chettiar), as per Agama sastra.

The temple has completed an important milestone of 10 years of dedicated service to the devotees of God Murugan and the Devakottai public at large.

Abundant positive energy, special Abhishegams & Poojas, Devotee centric infrastructure, common darshan to all, dedicated gurukkal and administrative staff, environment-friendly temple nandavanam with choicest varieties of trees, own hygienic kitchen (madapalli), and transparent administration are the hallmark of this temple.

The temple has 77 steps leading to sannidanam and is at a height of approximately 75 feet. The sannidanam at the top is a sight to behold and enjoy the inner peace perfectly because of the serene beauty & blessings of God Murugan, the force of Vayu Bhagavan and the panoramic view of the entire Devakottai town.

For the benefit of the elderly devotees and others who may find it tough to climb up the stairs to have darshan, Three Urchavar - Murugan, Valli & Deivanai, made of panchaloha were consecrated during the 2021 Thaipoosam festival

Three moorties: Shri Ganapathy, Shri Thandayuthapani Swamy and Bhakt Idumban are there. The Mayil Vahanam (Peacock) with snake is opposite to God Murugan.
Daily Abhishegam/Pooja, monthly karthigai Abhishegam, Pooja are performed regularly and Annadanam on various festivals are offered regularly to the devotees.

Some of the popular festivals organised in the temple are :
Thai poosam, Thiru Karthigai Maha Deepam, Panguni uthiram, Shasti Soorasamharam, Aadi krithigai and Masi Magam.

This is one of the most popular Murugan Temple south of Karaikudi up to Rameswaram.
